Supervisor networks
Explore the different networking opportunities for SI-PASS supervisors and how to participate.
This page provides information on various opportunities for SI-PASS supervisors to connect with colleagues, share experiences, and learn from each other. Whether you're interested in informal networking or in-depth discussions about specific challenges, there's a space for you to learn, share, and grow alongside other supervisors.
Here you'll find details about:
Online supervisor fika
Fancy a virtual coffee break with fellow SI-PASS supervisors? Inspired by the Swedish tradition of "fika" – the Swedish daily custom of coming together for a coffee, a sweet treat and a chat – these online meetups offer a relaxed space to connect, share experiences, and learn from each other.
SI-PASS Online supervisor fika focuses on supervisor development. It is a chance for SI-PASS supervisors to meet in an informal setting online to exchange ideas and experiences. Get together over a cup of coffee or tea (and maybe a cinnamon bun!) and share your best practice and your challenges with a wide network of SI-PASS supervisors across Europe.
The fikas are hosted by the European Centre for SI-PASS. They are hosted via Zoom, are 60 minutes long, and free of charge.
If you have any topics you'd like to discuss during a future fika, please feel free to contact us at: SI-PASS [at] stu [dot] lu [dot] se (SI-PASS[at]stu[dot]lu[dot]se)

Association for Peer Learning and Support network
The Association for Peer Learning and Support (APLS) network is a global community for educators and students interested in collaborative learning in Higher Education.
Founded in 2016, the network promotes peer learning initiatives where students lead study sessions and support each other.
What is peer learning
Instead of professors leading lectures, students take charge! Staff train and coordinate student peer leaders/ mentors/ buddies to facilitate group study sessions, fostering collaboration and active learning. This approach, based on constructivism (Jacobs et al., 2008), creates an interactive social setting where students learn from each other, developing creativity, critical thinking, and active participation in a supportive environment.
Join the network
The APLS values inclusivity and welcomes new members to join in and exchange ideas through our lively JiscMail list.
We are currently a group of almost 400 individual members from 22 countries worldwide. There are no membership fees, we simply encourage active participation. Members share best practices, network with colleagues, and contribute to honest discussions about challenges. By working together, we can find solutions and advance the field of peer learning programs.
For those in the UK, five regional networks offer regular meetups hosted by different institutions. These groups Include:
- Scotland
- Wales
- North of England
- Midlands
- London and the South East of England
- South West of England
If you're located outside these regions, or within the UK but not covered, contact Catherine McConnell: c [dot] mcconnell [at] brighton [dot] ac [dot] uk (c[dot]mcconnell[at]brighton[dot]ac[dot]uk). She can help you establish a local network or connect you with a nearby colleague.
